This is the largest number of subscribers for a weather-related mobile service in the world.

Weathernews launched their wireless application on one of the official i-mode Web sites operated by NTT DoCoMo in February, 1999. Since then, it has been offering the service to major wireless carriers in fourteen countries and territories as the second and third generations of mobile phone services were introduced into the markets.
