As the diversity of our customer base broadens and our business increases globally, there is more and more a need to provide services in respect to different languages and cultures. Thus, Weathernews is interested in increasing the international representation among the staff of its Global Center located in Makuhari, Japan (Tokyo area).
Weathernews annually recruits a class of 20-30 new hires to work in the Global Center, who primarily consist of recent university graduates. This class of recruits has primarily consisted of Japanese nationals, but there is interest to include more individuals from other cultures as well. After an orientation period of several weeks, each new hire is placed in a position according to his or her academic background, vocational interests, and the immediate needs of the Company.
Below are example positions at the Global Center in Japan, in which a successful candidate may be placed upon hire by Weathernews. Please note that speaking Japanese is not a requirement for application to Weathernews, although it is necessary to be able to speak native-level English.

Weathernews Forecaster/Risk Communicator

- Positions in marine, aviation, and land weather forecasting as well as risk communicator positions, which involve working directly with customers in translating weather forecast data into information germane to the operations of respective industries such as shipping, aviation, off-shore petroleum, surface transportation or any of the industry sectors served by Weathernews.
Note: Upon entering the company, actual position placement will be determined by educational background, experience, and vocational interest. - Requirements

- - Priority will be given to those holding at least a B.S. in meteorology or a related geoscience field. Graduates with a degree in other science concentrations or engineering are welcome to apply.
- - Recent or soon-to-be university graduates are welcome to apply.
- - The successful candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills (native English) and be customer-focused, and able to understand and fulfill specific customer requirements.
- - The successful candidate should be self-motivated with strong organizational skills, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- - The ability to speak Japanese is beneficial, but is not a requirement. Fluency in other foreign languages is an asset.
- - The candidate must be willing to relocate to Japan. Assistance toward procuring the appropriate work visa will be provided.
