Speed and Consumption Disputes;Quick and Fair Settlement
The London Maritime Arbitration Association Conference
Thursday 22nd of November 2007

Weathernews is pleased to announce that we will make a presentation on our ”Official Performance Auditing (OPA) service in the conference held by The London Maritime Arbitration Association at the Caf_ Royal on the 22nd of November 2007.

The topics to be presented are as follows.

  1. Analyze speed & consumption claims - correct methodology and common mistakes (The Gas Enterprise [1993 LMLN0357])
  2. Understand how to organize speed & consumption claims or defenses to minimize disputes - best practice
  3. Examine Charter Party clause constructions - what is fair and what's not
  4. Review current weather technology and how this can be applied in ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution).

As a pioneer of ’weather routing’, Weathernews has established TFMS (Total Fleet Management Service) for Ship Operators and SAMS (Ship Asset Management Service) for Ship Owners, both of which share the same goal ‘Quick and Fair Settlement’. These will be explained to Arbitrators and Lawyers depicting new vessel performance evaluation report formats, which have been designed to support Quick and Fair settlement based on maritime arbitration standards.

London Arbitration is trying to promote the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) method, which allows shipping companies involved to enjoy advantages of speedy settlement, cost-effectiveness, keeping privacy, and preserving commercial relationships. We firmly believe London Arbitration has recognized our Official Performance Auditing reports as valuable and a reliable reference for Arbitrations and Mediations.

We also have to say that flawed vessel performance reports are still being generated by some weather routing companies, which are merely delaying commercial settlement and wasting lots of time and only adding extra cost to shipping companies. To reduce disputes or stop disputes Weathernews strongly urges that biased or flawed analysis should be eliminated. Weathernews continues to provide unbiased and impartial analysis without fear or favor - applying Tribunals' standards to help the shipping industry.
