The motto for BP Shipping is "Clean seas- Safe ships- Commercial success" and Weathernews has now been successfully helping BP Shipping with this mission for more than 2 years.
BP Shipping strategically utilizes Weathernews services to assist their Masters on all cross ocean voyages throughout the year. Captain Scott Keane (Regional Voyage Operations Manager) recently provided feedback to Weathernews on just how we are doing:
“Our close cooperation with Weathernews Inc has helped us to deliver on all of these values by reducing our emissions, improving onboard safety and reducing weather damage, and by making real savings on our bunker purchases. Over the last 2 years we have reported saving on bunker costs alone of $10.70 for every $1 spent on Oceanrouteing with Weathernews Inc. This is on top of the savings in time, and reduction in wear and tear on our vessels and fatigue in our crews.”
“We have reduced our carbon emissions fleet wide by over 55,000 tonnes in the 2 year period, which is a great achievement in itself. To put this number in perspective, it is the same as removing 17,000 average cars from the road, each driving 10,000 km per year.
Best of all, we believe our results can improve still further and we have set ourselves a tangible reduction target for 2010 which will mean we will have to work even harder for more savings.”
We look forward to working with Weathernews Inc in the future to help us to deliver ‘Clean seas- Safe ships- Commercial success’ into 2010 and beyond.”
Weathernews also looks forward to working with BP Shipping on future challenges to reduce emissions whilst maintaining maximum safety for vessels at sea.
