Priorities Definitely Confirmed:
Safety, Emissions Reduction and Business Intelligence
September 18th, 2008, Captain Scott Keane (BP Shipping) paid a visit to Weathernews HQ in Japan to meet key Weathernews staff, see our Total Fleet Management Service Operations Systems and share some of BP Shipping’s expectations of it’s collaboration with Weathernews.
Captain Keane introduced the history of BP Shipping, current challenges facing the tanker market and his experience of being a Master.
Summary:
- BP Shipping takes safety very seriously and considers this a priority above all else.
- The environment is much more of an issue now than ever before and BP Shipping believes it is vital that companies take responsibility for the environment they operate in. Hence, reducing emissions is of high importance.
- A flexible approach to vessel performance speed management is essential as it directly affects the efficiency of the voyage and the company’s commercial success. Having better information to make critical business decisions is fundamental to our success.
“Our mission [BP Shipping] is to transport each barrel of oil from one place to another place safetly, efficiently, and with the minimum impact on the environment. We have evaluated that Weathernews’ TFMS service has had a positive impact on our fleet performance and the environment due to around a 3.5% fuel & emission reduction.”
Captain Keane said.
Weathernews will continue to develop its service menu to live up BP Shipping & other tanker company’s expectations.
- BP Shipping:
- BP Shipping's origins go back to the year 1915 when the British Tanker Company Limited was formed to carry products for the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (the forerunner of BP). BP Shipping continues to provide the logistics to move BP’s oil and gas cargoes to market via an owned and timechartered core fleet, as well as providing marine assurance on everything that floats in the BP group.
